« The Planets »

One of my proudest moments as a high school student was auditioning for and being accepted into the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra. Every Sunday, my cello and I would travel to Northern Kentucky University for rehearsals. Throughout the season, we would play amazing pieces, including Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky, Carmen by Bizet,  and the William Tell Overture by Rossini just to name a few. Then, in early spring we would have a chance of a lifetime - a joint performance with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Sharing a music stand with a professional musician was a dream come true. Because of this amazing opportunity, I knew that music would be an important part of my life - especially my wedding!

One of the compositions that has stuck with me all these years is Jupiter by Gustav Holst. Whenever I hear this piece it gives me goose bumps. I knew that it was a selection that had to be part of our wedding, and so it was. My matron of honor, Melissa, entered the Cincinnati Dining Room at the Cincinnati Museum Center to Jupiter. That is the moment of the evening that the emotions hit me. My brother wiped my tears, offered me his arm, and walked me down the aisle to my husband.

Is there a piece of music that you will incorporate in your ceremony that moves you?

I remember those moments just before you walked down the aisle as if they happened yesterday!

I LOVE Jupiter! Teaching it to my band students right now in fact :)

I plan to use "Sunrise, Sunset" just like my mom did 30 years ago. And just as she did, I'll have a friend (or two :) performing it!
