« {Giveaway}: Green, but Blue »
Monday, April 6, 2009 at 8:00AM I have a little giveaway for all my eco-friendly readers! I love this bag from Bath & Body, one because it is in Lucky Me colors, and two because it is tiny and will fit perfectly in a purse, car, diaper bag, etc. I really feel that every little bit helps our environment. I am constantly being reminded by my husband to recycle, and I am grateful. (And I am constantly reminding him to turn off the lights in the basement!) It is for Lucky Baby after all. So, tell me where you are located and how it is becoming a little bit greener and you will be entered to win the reusable, stowable bag!
One entry per person. Please make sure to leave your email address - it will only be used to contact you if you win. Leave your comment by FRIDAY, APRIL 10th MIDNIGHT EST.
AND... Stop by Lucky Baby for another eco-friendly giveaway!!

St. Pete has FINALLY started a recycling pick-up program but we continue to recycle and take it ourselves since we are so close to the center. We are also starting a compost pile so I'll have fertilizer for my new garden!
my apt complex in alpharetta, ga requires its residents to recyle 20% of their waste! you're right! every little bit helps!
we have two recycle bins now because we couldn't fit everything from week to week. My whole family is on board, but I have to remind my husband each time he is on the way to throw something out. He's finally started asking & it's becoming more of a habit. We bought water bottles this year and haven't bought any bottled water - we were buying 2 cases per month. And we've switched to powder versions of our sports drinks. I love taking my own bags to the grocery too.... they are so much easier to carry & don't fall over in the trunk! I try to keep a small one with me for impromptu shopping but haven't found one I liked as of yet.
Here in Albany, NY, more and more people are bringing their own bags to the grocery store, the co op, and even to bookstores and clothing stores. I work in a retail store, and I'm always pleasantly surprised when customers hand over their own cloth bag. A lot of them tell me to keep the bag too, and they carry their books bagless. "Save a tree...a plastic tree!" is often heard!
We've been recycling and doing laundry with cold water only for years. We've swapped out a bunch of our lightbulbs and when we get to the new house, will doing much more (ie composting, rain barrel) etc.
This is a great bag which would be great for when I start training it in (I drive now) to carry my shoes and lunch.
Great giveaway.
We planted our own garden this year. Using a rain barrel to collect the rain to water our yard and garden and we also started a composting bin. It's a small contribution but I feel better about it.
I'm from Berkeley, CA...and most of the supermarkets (Trader Joe's, Whole Food, Berkeley Bowl) encourage you to bring in your own grocery tote or bag (they either give you some money back or enter you in a raffle).
I live in Raleigh, NC, and on my college campus, they got rid of all trays to reduce water waste.
I'm in Atlanta and our complex has a large compost bin - a great way to reduce our waste.
I live in Orlando, Florida and have two roommates and we have started recycling just about everything that can be recycled, use less water, turn off lights when not in use! I am also a part of the Surfrider Foundation and planning to become apart of a clean up crew on one of our beaches soon.
Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway!
We recycle everything . . . paper, tin, glass, aluminum, plastic. I have also been using the reusable bags at the grocery store. Also, just for my wedding, I have been using lots of local vendors, buying locally is green in many ways, saves on shipping, helps the local economy . . . I love being green!!
I live in an artist's loft community in orange county and we are about energy conservation and recycling. Although I always reuse grocery bags for something else, it would be so cool to have a cute reusable bag like this!
Our TV stations in Joplin, MO have made recycling easy. They have bins for paper, cardboard, and plastic all in one easy to drop off location!
I am in KS, and our city offers a great curbside recycling program that accepts just about everything! (Plastic, #s 1-7, glass, newspaper, junk mail, etc.). Also the local grocery store gives you a 5 cent credit per bag you bring in, which isn't much but it adds up! We've become much more conscious about lights, water, etc, trying to conserve energy wherever possible.
I'm loving all the comments, getting ideas of other ways to go green! Also love the giveaway of course. ;)
I live in Fort Rucker, Alabama. The military housing office offers recycling and bulk-item pick ups so that those who live on post do not have to carry recycling into town. We recycle cardboard, plastic, and metal through this program. We have reduced the amount of glass we use, due to the non-availability of a glass recycling facility nearby. All clothing and linens are either reused in the house or donated to the local thrift stores. We are trying really hard to just reduce our waste.
Gorgeous Seattle is constantly improving our beautiful green city and just updated our fantastic recycling program once again! We now are able to toss ALL of our recyclables in the same bin - no more separating green glass from cardboard for us. AND (this one really excites me) we can now put all of our table scraps in our yard waste bins! Our weekly garbage can waste just went down drastically. In our household of 3 adults, 1 dog and 2 cats, we only have two small sacks of garbage per week. Yippee!
In Champaign, Illinois they are now picking up as many bags of recyclables in our weekly trash pickup as you put out, and not just the one bin. It's great since we try to recycle as much as possible! At my office, we all try to have lamps in our office so we can turn off the energy sucking overhead lights and we're working hard to be paperless. We don't print things, email everything for meetings, and we all have laptops to bring to meetings instead of stacks of paper!
I'm located in Alta Loma, CA. My fiance and I are HUGE on recycling. We save bottles, cans, etc. And have a separate recycling bin! I'm originally from Phoenix and EVERYONE recycles it seems like. When I came here, there weren't any recycling bins in peoples' houses. Hmmm. But we have made it a point to be intentional about recycling.
Sheesh...that Bath and Body bag is sooo adorable. It's in my wedding color (less than 3 months until the wedding!) It's so fun and bright. Fun giveaway! And a good way to keep people thinking! THANK YOU!
I live in Los Angeles, CA the city has provided us the residence 2 grass bin, 1 blue bin (recycle) and a black bin for trash only. The grocery stores are now carrying reusable bags with their logo. Just a year ago I would only see at least 5 customers with their own bags. Now I am seeing more of the customers (community) take their own bags :) That always makes me smile. Of course I couldn't stop there. I had my work do the same thing with the bins and we order additional reusable bags with the company name to give to our clients :)
Here in NYC & suburbs, more and more stores are encouraging use of reusable bags and abandoning "double-bagging" when using plastic bags.
We pay A LOT for required city trash bags in Decatur, GA, but the pay-as-you-throw system really helps us conserve and remember to recycle.
here in melbourne australia we have our recycling collected weekly - i like to get my three year old to put the recycling in the wheelie bin with me so he gets an understanding of how it all works now from an early age :) he just thinks it's fun which is great too!
I live in Grand Rapids, MI and we have an awesome local program called Paper Gator Recycling. Non-profit organizations can have a Paper Gator dumpster-sized bin placed on their property for people of the community to bring their paper products. The bin is emptied weekly and taken to a nearby environmental company. The paper is then recycled into various products for the yard and home. This is also a fund-raising opportunity for the non-profit organization! The Paper Gator Co. pays the organization quarterly for the amount of paper products they collect. It's a win-win-win for the organization, the community, and the environment! Check out their website - it really is an awesome program. www.papergatorrecycling.com
Thanks! Christy
I am thinking about giving these reusable-foldaway-pocket size bag for my bridesmaids. I love them cuz they tuck away in your handbag and you won't forget to use them when you go grocery shopping. They are GREAT!!
In upstate NY, my town has been recycling for a while and it is so easy for us to put all of our recyclables in one bin and set them out for pick-up...couldn't be easier to do our part! Also, I'm planning on starting a compost pile this spring when I begin gardening.
Very cute bag.
